The Burlington Police Department Crime Analysis Unit is tasked with providing crime statistics, intelligence information and analysis of crime trends and patterns. This information is used to allocate resources when necessary and to detect crimes that are linked to each other within Burlington and across jurisdictional boundaries. A weekly crime bulletin along with any relevant criminal intelligence information is provided to officers within the department and shared with regional Police Departments through the NEMLEC Detectives Distribution List.
The Burlington Police Department has recently started working towards the implementation of DDACTS, or a Data Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety. By using empirical data, the Department will be able to determine when and where crime and traffic issues are occurring most frequently and then strategically direct resources to reduce crime and crashes in those areas. The next logical step will be the adoption of a Predictive Policing strategy whereby crime and traffic issues are anticipated before they become problems.
