The Therapeutic Recreation Division within Burlington Parks and Recreation offers purposeful, fun and engaging programs for people with disabilities of all ages.


What is Therapeutic Recreation?

Therapeutic Recreation utilizes purposeful recreation and leisure to improve and/or maintain the quality of life of individuals with disabilities. Participation in therapeutic recreation programs may lead to an increase in independence and improve physical and emotional well-being.

Mission & Goals for Therapeutic Recreation Programs:

The Parks and Recreation Department's mission is to enhance the quality of life for Burlington citizens by providing high quality recreation facilities, programs and services.

The Therapeutic Recreation Division’s goal is to provide high quality recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. Our programming is intended to be a supportive setting for all participants to recreate. We believe inclusion of people with disabilities is an essential part of a strong community.
