Elderly and Disabled Tax Relief Fund

The Town of Burlington is now accepting applications for the FY26 Elderly and Disabled Tax Relief Fund. This program was created to help eligible homeowners who are experiencing financial hardship. Residents who qualify may be able to receive assistance paying a portion of their real estate tax bill.


Application Information and Requirements:


  • The application period for FY26 is January 1, 2026 – January 31, 2026.
  • Residents must be 60 years or older as verified by a government photo ID OR have a state-recognized disability AND meet eligibility requirements.
  • Annual income must be at or below the following amounts:
      • $75,000 (Single)
      • $94,000 (Head of Household)
      • $112,000 (Filing Joint)
  • Available assets may not exceed $100,000.
  • Residents must pay their bill even if they complete this application.
  • As noted above, the application will officially close on January 31, 2026.
  • The Burlington Elderly and Disabled Tax Fund Committee will review applications in February of 2026 and decisions will be mailed to applicants after that time.
  • If funding will be granted, a reduction will be made on their 4th quarter real estate bill.
  • The funds available are based on private donations. The amount disbursed will vary from year to year. If you would like to make a donation to help keep this important endeavor funded for years to come, please send a check to the Treasurer's Office at 29 Center Street.                                          

How to Apply:


Step 1: Complete the Application

Step 2: Gather Required Documents

  • Please include a document from one of the following categories:
    • Taxes:
      • Government issued photo ID
      • Most recent 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ if you file an income tax return OR
    • Proof of Income:
      • Most recent bank statements of all household members over 18
      • Copies of most recent mortgage statements
      • Copies of most recent annuity/pension statement
      • Copy of most recent paystub
      • Copy of Social Security benefits letter

Step 3: Submit the Application

  • Submit all completed materials through the online form or in person at the Burlington Council on Aging located at 61 Center Street Burlington, MA 01803.  For help filling out the application, please contact the Council on Aging at 781-270-1950 to make an appointment with a social worker.


Please note: Upon applying for assistance, residents may be required to provide the committee with further information and supporting documentation to establish their eligibility.  Applicants will be notified in writing whether an award has been granted or denied by the 3rd week of April.
